In
accordance with the decision of Executive Committee of the Eshwar Nagar Residents’ Welfare
Association (ERWA), a delegation comprised of Eshwar Nagar Ward Councillor Mr.
Manjunath, Association Secretary Mr. Prakash Shenoy, Advisor Mr. K. Srinivas
Rao, past Presidents of ERWA Prof. Yajnesh Sharma and Prof. Sureshramana Mayya,
and current President CA Dinakara Shetty, met with Mr. Mahesh Thakur, President
of the Udupi Town BJP Unit, and presented a memorandum of their demands. The
core committee members then discussed various topics, such as the widening of
the road leading to the Narasinge Temple, installation of signboards, cleaning
of empty plots in Eshwar Nagar, rainwater channels, and a park in Eshwar Nagar,
as well as a bus bay. Mr. Thakur expressed his agreement to implement all of
their demands and acknowledged the active role played by the Association in the
development of Eshwar Nagar.
The
following is a summary of the meeting with Mr. Mahesh Thakur:
- The Smart City project
has been expanded from the MIT bus stop to 3rd Main in Eshwar Nagar,
including a separate cycle track and a bus shelter with two shops on
either side at the Big Boss junction. The Nandini milk booth at the road
junction will be relocated to one of the shops in the bus shelter to
alleviate traffic congestion.
- Three crores will be
requested from the Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance
Corporation (KUIDFC) to upgrade the road from Big Boss to Narasinge Temple
to a concrete road. The work is expected to start within six months, but
there is no provision for a stormwater trench or pedestrian walkway in
this scheme. These will be addressed under a separate budget/scheme by
UCMC.
- A colony layout board
will be installed at the Bus Stand after the road has been concretized.
- Plans are underway for a
children's park and outdoor gym on the open land near the Milk Dairy, but
the timeline is not specified. Once the new officials take office, the
town planning department (UUDA) will likely address this issue within ten
days.
- The matter of empty plots
will be taken seriously, and the Parkala Panchayat VA will gather data on
the owners of these plots, while UCMC will issue notices for their upkeep.
ERWA will also attempt to convince and motivate the owners to clean the
vacant sites.
- UCMC has already planned
for additional stormwater trench work in the colony, which will be
expedited, but no timeline was given.
- The residents will soon
have access to pressurized water supply 24 hours a day, as 90% of the
Vaarahi Project pipes have already been laid in the colony and will be
commissioned soon.
